Cape Town - A crime swoop in the Western Cape over the weekend saw more than 2 000 people arrested for a variety of crimes.
Captain Rod Beer said the swoop, from Friday until Sunday, resulted in 958 people being arrested for serious offences and 1 190 for less serious offences.
Police also recovered 33 illegal firearms and 193 rounds of ammunition.
Eleven stolen vehicles were found, said Beer. Police also found 348kg of dagga, 756 Mandrax tablets and 74 Ecstasy tablets.
The police were assisted by the SA National Defence Force and the Cape Town City Police.
The weekend's actions formed part of the recently launched operation Tswikila ("pinch"), which would continue for the next two months.
