Durban - A woman died when a bakkie and a car collided on the N2 north between Zinkwazi and Tugela Bridge on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on Monday morning, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said two other people were injured after the collision caused one of the cars to burst into flames.

Paramedics and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the road obstructed with debris from the accident.

"Tragically one person was still trapped in the mangled wreckage and had died before our arrival. Two others were injured, one with serious and the other with minor injuries," he said.

The injured people were stabilised on the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
