A POLICE hunt for three alleged car thieves after a high-speed chase yesterday morning by a stroke of luck yielded six arrests and the recovery of drugs.

Police from New Hanover and surrounding stations gave chase to a stolen vehicle, reportedly taken from a property in Haniville, after they were tipped off by Mountain Rise officers just before 2 am yesterday morning.

The stolen Toyota bakkie was last spotted on the way to Greytown when officers started preparing to take down the alleged thieves. After a high-speed chase, the three men stopped the bakkie and ran into the sugarcane fields alongside the road. Police then spotted a white Golf roaming the area which they believed was a getaway vehicle that had come to fetch the men.

With a stroke of luck, police found six people in the vehicle, three men and three females, with a large amount of drugs and cash in the boot. The vehicle they were driving is also believed to be stolen.

All six were taken into custody and the hunt is still on for the three men who stole the bakkie from Haniville.
