Johannesburg - A man was critically injured when a car hit him in Kempton Park on Saturday evening, Netcare 911 paramedics said.

Spokesperson Chris Botha said the man was crossing Modderfontein road at 18:00 when the car hit him, leaving him with serious injuries.

"He was bit by a bakkie travelling along Modderfontein road, flung onto the bonnet... sustaining polly traumatic injuries," Botha said.

Paramedics stabilised the man at the scene and he was then airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital for specialised treatment.
