Car rolls, 3 dead

Mafikeng - Three people died when their car overturned on a gravel road in Masuthe village outside Mafikeng on Saturday morning, Nortwest traffic officials said.

"The family members from Magogwe village are said to have been rushing to the unveiling of a tombstone in Modimola village when the 31-year-old driver lost control," the Northwest public safety department said in a statement.

"They rolled several times and the vehicle landed on its roof."

The driver's aunt, age 51, and his sister, age 16, were both thrown from the vehicle and killed. The driver was trapped in the wreckage where he died.

The car's speed and passenger's lack of safety belts are believed to have been factors in the fatalities.
