Johannesburg - Management of Johannesburg's Carlton Centre on Monday condemned a reported attack on a lesbian by its security guards.

Gender-based violence would not be tolerated at the shopping mall, spokesperson Mboniso Sigonyela said.

Remedial steps would be taken for any wrong-doing.

Sigonyela was commenting on behalf of the Transnet Group, the company that owns the Carlton Centre.

Bonisiwe Mtshali, 29, was beaten unconscious after kissing her girlfriend goodbye on 13 June, The Star newspaper reported on Monday.

Sigonyela said: "We have learnt with regret about the unfortunate incident and wish to apologise unreservedly to the lady and the public."

He said management had asked its head of security to conduct a full investigation.

"The woman will also be consulted as part of this process," he said.

Mtshali was beaten up after kissing her girlfriend goodbye on 13 June.

"I accompany her to work every morning... and every morning I give her a goodbye kiss," her partner, Khanyisa Ndoda, told the newspaper

"But as we kissed that day, we heard these guys saying "Some people will never reach heaven and shouting 'voetsek'."

Mtshali confronted the three security guards from Hlanganani Protection Services, contracted to the centre.

They allegedly assaulted her. She regained consciousness three hours later.

Sean Bagley says... So let me get this right: The Indian Government sends over a fella, named Gupta in South Africa as a salesman, who then sells to the ANC cheap Indian made computers and other electronic goods so as to secure tenders for themselves off the ANC.Further along IT specialists and media moguls are sent from India aswell so as to further the Indian Governments interest in South Africa,as they do in most of Africa to compete with their rivals in China for control of the African Continent. A wedding for which none of the ANC ministers that got invited to it even know who that is,and will never after that wedding even see again in person. And this is where it gets tricky.Has the brainf@art clowns in Government just sell out South Africa over a "bowl of stew" served up by "white servant's only" in Sun City? And on top of that the Chief of State Protocol Bruce Koloane becomes the fall guy in this. And why is Mac Maharaj who is the Presidential spokesperson whilst all this so quiet all of a sudden?Has anyone seen him anywhere?Maharaj with his Hindu connections is definitely one that could've been behind this landing of a plane full of Indian foreigners at a airbase. Schabir Shaik,Vivian Reddy,Guptas,etc- has there been a street named after any one of them in Nkandla? Read the article...
