Johannesburg - A man was killed and four other people were injured when two cars collided in Unitas Park in Vereeniging, paramedics said on Sunday.

The cars were travelling in the same direction on Skippie Botha Road, west of Johannesburg when the accident occurred, said Netcare911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks.

"The force of impact saw both vehicles overturn repeatedly into the veld, coming to rest nearly 30m from the road," said Wicks.

On Arrival, paramedics found that a man had died in one of the cars, while a passenger sustained minor injuries.

The driver and another passenger in the second car sustained minor injuries. The Jaws of Life had to be used to free the third passenger who had been trapped in the wreckage, said Wicks.

She and the other injured people were stabilised and taken to the Sebokeng Hospital for further treatment.
