Johannesburg - A woman who allegedly left two of her children in a car outside a shopping mall appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Captain Shado Mashobane said Shelly Khumalo would be back in court on April 25.

Khumalo, who is out on bail of R2 000, allegedly left her 6-month-old baby and a 2-year-old child in her car outside the River Square shopping centre in December last year.

She took her other two children with her.

A car guard notified the police and paramedics. A paramedic broke one of the car's windows to get the children out. When Khumalo returned she allegedly slapped a police officer.

She faces charges of child neglect, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.
