Cash heist at Bryanston school

2011-03-03 15:58

Johannesburg - A cash-in-transit van was robbed in the parking lot of King's College, in Bryanston, on Thursday, police said.

Three robbers posing as visitors entered the school premises at the security point, said principal Craig Du Preez.

"They were dressed in suits and looked very respectable. They waited at the church until the cash van arrived," he said.

They took an empty cash box from the van - which was at the school to collect money - and ran to a getaway car parked outside the premises.

On the way, they held up a New Convenant Church security guard and robbed him of his firearm. The church and school share a parking lot, said Warrant Officer Balan Muthan.

They then drove off in a blue Audi.

Du Preez said pupils at the school did not see the incident.

Muthan said a member of the public took down the car's registration number and the robbers were almost immediately traced and arrested on the N1 freeway, near the N17 off-ramp.

Two firearms were recovered during the arrest, he said.
