Cele: I'll shut up and go home

2012-06-13 10:36

Johannesburg - Bheki Cele on Wednesday wished the new police commissioner Mangwashi Victoria Phiyega the best of luck and said he will just “shut up and go home”.

Speaking at a news conference, the former top cop thanked South Africans who have shown him their support and said he is “walking tall”.

In a frank statement read out at the National Press Club, Cele said he faced three years of persecution by the media, singling out the Sunday Times newspaper.

“Reject the loud propaganda of the loud minority who writes newspapers,” he said.

“If I had one more day to live, I would live it with the police. Our paths will cross again.”

Mr OvaprivilagedWhitey, you sound like a stuck record. You will make a good politician

      gladlad - 2012-06-13 10:52

@ OvaprivilegedWhitey....what you talkin bout man???

      MSGRule - 2012-06-13 10:53

@Ova - Wow you never fail to impress with the log winded statements. The priviledged cANCer derelicts are really living it up on the backs of the poor. And then a news paper reports about corruption and immediately it is "white" people. Stop researching these lovely statements and go find out who the editors are that write the stories. You cANCer party does not like to be shown where they make mistakes over and over again.

      Jacqui - 2012-06-13 10:58

Ovaetc. maybe whites just want to get on with building up the country and you lot of losers want to sit and moan about the past. It must be cold with a permanent mud pack on your head.

      RSole - 2012-06-13 14:47

The most sensible thing he has done since taking office.

Clearest case of ''Appartheids fault '' I have ever seen !!

  • Marion - 2012-06-13 10:45

Bheki, I appreciate the impact you had on lowering crime levels in SA. Thank you for that. Bow out gracefully now.

      Tsotsi-Baby - 2012-06-13 11:05

Mrs Marion deserves a cup.Shes one of the only white people i respect

      johan.lombard.33 - 2012-06-13 11:11

Wow Marion - You just got a very credible endorsement!

  • Sagin - 2012-06-13 10:46

If only malema would do the same.

  • Dylan Mugabe - 2012-06-13 10:46

So it's the white mans fault again? Eishhhhhh brah B. You cut me deep. It's your fault for not following procedure. Trying to hide the truth. Acting above the law & outside your capacity. Sunday Times did ride you hard but that's the job of the media. Stomach in, chest out.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-13 11:18

bhulangwe - "... loud minority who writes newspapers,” - what minority is he refering to, the Chinese? I think not.

  • Elvis - 2012-06-13 10:46

May God Bless you. You worked hard for us Morena Cele..!

      johan.lombard.33 - 2012-06-13 10:53

Morena Cele, should just shut up and go now. Thanks for wasting our tax money. That is almost all he did right.

      Marion - 2012-06-13 11:00

@JohanLombard - I think it is unfair not to acknowledge that crime has come down during his tenure. Insofar as maladministration and wasting taxpayers money goes we should not lose sight of the fact that the impeccable DA has been accused of the same thing in Cape Town and Midvaal. Will those responsible also be asked to step down/be fired?

      johan.lombard.33 - 2012-06-13 11:04

Marion, They should all be fired. I don't care about the party.

      Mike.ntsh2009 - 2012-06-13 11:13

@Marion; You hit the nail on the head. It is sad, indeed, that he is lost to corruption. When it came to operational matters he was really putting a dent on crime. All contact crimes were showing a decline during his tenure and who knows where we would be in few more years?

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-13 11:19

If he can steal tax payers money he can jippo the statistics to make himself look good, no?

  • Erna - 2012-06-13 10:54

Its not the 'loud minority' who investigated you and ultimately found you guilty! The newspapers were just the start of it.

  • phosa.peter2 - 2012-06-13 10:56

You are the Man amoungst the men.you made the 'mark' where ever you walked..you 'll remain 'the General' 4 ever, you' hav sqeezd the territory of the criminals into 0' during your time..i salute you' 4 dat..go well baba cele.

  • anton.dwl - 2012-06-13 10:56

Who's home? The one that you are staying in comes with the job and is a perk. Maybe Roux Shabangu will let you sleep on his couch?

  • charlesdumbwin.dumbwin - 2012-06-13 10:58

Sounds great Cele, can you please take the ANCYL tsotis with you?

  • Ntombizakhona Nkosi - 2012-06-13 10:59

Go well Mr Cele u were the best. I wonder who is next bcs it seems like our President has got a hidden agenda with these high profiled ppl. do they know something we dont know, Is he firing them and give them a lump some of money for them to shut up? He is busy firing ppl, when is he gonna be fired for being a bad leader?

      Siphiwo - 2012-06-13 11:11

I agree with you Ntombizodwa, the General, as he will be called, did so well. Never in the history of this country, did we have a Chief Policeman who would take on modern crime head on. Go well the fearless fighter. You gave the criminals the best medicine they ever deserved.

  • lonwabo.yaso - 2012-06-13 10:59

I'll miss you general and thank you for serving our country. I know you'll bounce back.

  • Jacqui - 2012-06-13 11:00

    Golden hand shake and all.

  • Aziza - 2012-06-13 11:01

Cele really worked hard as a top cop in lowering crime rates, he just lacked on the administration side, now barely a day after new top cop gets appointed there are riots.. i really think criminals will get out now knowing that theres a woman in charge.. iam not a sexist but criminals were scared of Cele... whats is she going to do? take out her Loreal lipstick?

      MSGRule - 2012-06-13 11:08

Shes going to run it like a business hopefully. You dont need to be a fat cat police man to run the orginasation. Same thing as you don't need revolutionaries like the cANCer running the country. Law and order is required and accountability and that is hopefully what she will bring.

      arthur.hugh - 2012-06-13 11:21

Aziza - stealing tax payers money makes him a criminal.

      Charmaine Sanic - 2012-06-13 13:15

be very careful AZIZA, history has shown that woman lead better and the only problem is that people are scared she actually does the job better then the past corrupt MEN the police has had as their commissioners. Don't judge a book by its cover. What's wrong AZIZA does a woman scare you, sham it must be hard to get to grips that woman are coming up in this government and one day we will have a woman leading this country.

Go well the General...everybody knows your contribution in fighting crime. I wish you well in future.

  • Sagin - 2012-06-13 11:08

@dubula and bhulangwe (or whatever Your idiotic manes are) You really should refrain from posting because you just show everyone how thick you are. @ overpriveleged, come on man You are not white , nor will you ever be. get over it. stop being so bitter. i know its hard but try being proud of your black skin. stop blaming the people you aspire to be like because you are just wasting an already stunted life.
