Cele praises police for foiling heist

Johannesburg - National police commissioner Bheki Cele praised police for foiling a cash-in-transit heist near Pretoria on Tuesday morning, attributing the success to better training and intelligence.

"Fortunately no police officials or security guards were wounded in this clash, which once again proves that our police members have the capacity, manpower and firepower to counter any threat to public safety", said a statement issued on his behalf.

At 09:30, three of the alleged robbers were shot dead by police. Two more were in a critical condition in hospital, according to ER24 spokesperson Vannessa Jackson.

Four others - one of whom is a police constable - were arrested unharmed, said police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo.

Cele was commenting on the work of the special task force, the national intervention unit, the Hawks and the air wing of the police in catching the robbers on the R101, near the Rooiwal power station, Temba, on Tuesday morning.

"These thugs ... decided to open fire on our officers, resulting in a shoot-out", said Cele.

Police investigations into the crime were continuing, Naidoo said.

What Intelligence you dumbass? Defintely not from your so-called "leadership". Yes, the police are actually trying to do their job, despite fools like you pretending to run the show. And yes, we're not stupid. You're gonna get your ass fried for your corrupt, lying, thieving, dumb attempt at corruption, dumbass!

See some of his cronies also caught

  • bashphil - 2011-02-22 22:43

These must've been some of the "skilled cops" he sent to quell the Wesselton protests, as the general South African police force are little more than illiterate, uneductated, bling-flashing, bribe-mongering, cases.

"one of whom is a police constable" - well done to the guys for apprehending them, but when the armed robebrs you are arresting actually work for the the police, perhaps you need to hold back on the praise a bit there, Bheki. Oha nd a further point, considering you say you have the 'capacity, manpower and firepower to counter any threat to public safety' can I assume we shall not be seeing any more crime stories of murder and robbery? Or are you perhaps talking out of your arse again?

Interesting how a policeman (from Ga-Rankuwa!) who was already convicted of being involved in another transito heist 18 months ago, were still working as a policeman. Compare this to the 2 policemen who were suspended after they stopped ‘her royal highness’ Winnie for speeding! Now please explain this to us Genl. ‘corrupt-rental-contract’ Cele? You are pathetic in your running of our country Mr ‘shower-head’ Zuma! (See for ref.)

  • Worldwise - 2011-02-23 08:45

Kak. So the SAPS managed to foil one heist. Now General Cele, provide the stats of how many they didn't manage to foil in the past year to balance the picture. Also, one of your own employees was involved in the heist, lets see you say something about that and also supply stats about how many of your employees have been caught committing crime.

A policeman involved in crime? What else is new. Bheki running around bleating like a sheep. What about your own corrupt dealings?

      AJ - 2011-02-23 10:31

@Santapola: "Police commissioner did not commit any corrupt activity FINISH AND KLAAR"... How do you know this?

  • pawsaw - 2011-02-23 10:49

How are police selected if one of the alleged robbers was actually a police constable? How did he get past the selection process Mr Cele? Perhaps one needs to have a more stringent selection process before allowing just any riff raff to join the cops. That would be a good place to start. We need to know that when we call the cops in an emergency their response is prompt and that those who respond are not just reinforcements for the crooks.

  • Santapola - 2011-02-23 10:53

@Klap..good one my brother..people are just pushing their own agendas to some irrelavant articles...we glad that police did a well job done and Mr cele was just congradulating
