Celeb refuses to pay for petrol

2011-12-06 22:35

Johannesburg - Police are searching for a celebrity who allegedly refused to pay for petrol at a service station in Mmabatho, North West police said on Tuesday.

"The man is a well-known celebrity and stays in Gauteng," said Brigadier Thulani Ngubani.

Police could not reveal the man's identity because he had not been charged yet.

The man allegedly filled up his car at a Caltex service station in Mmabatho, but refused to pay the full amount of R690.

"He was given a chance until Monday to pay for the petrol but he did not," said Ngubani.

"We will work with Gauteng police and we expect to make an arrest soon."

What are they waiting for? If it had been you or me we would have been thrown in jail right away.

      Sharon - 2011-12-07 08:32

We would not have been able to leave the petrol station.

      JP - 2011-12-07 10:02

i once forgot my wallet at home, and they refused to let me go and get it, i had to call a family member to retrieve my wallet...

      procold2 - 2011-12-07 13:21

jp the same happend to me, exept there was nobody at home to bring the wallet so they syphoned all the petrol (to the litre by the way) out

      Mike - 2011-12-07 15:43

@procold2: That's illegal. They are absolutely not permitted to siphon the petrol unless they can be 100% certain that they are only taking THEIR petrol and not a SINGLE drop of your petrol that was already in the tank when you arrived. They simply cannot do that.

SA doesn't have celebrities, only egotistical idiots who think they are worth something. Whoever he is, lock his @$$ up

      benjaminvanstaden - 2011-12-07 09:46

Maybe he did not have money to pay.... It's happened to me :(

      benjaminvanstaden - 2011-12-07 09:46

Oh sorry, I see - He refused. I'm with you on this one G-Man

      Martin - 2011-12-07 10:27

nowhere has celebrities, angelina would get nothing free, oprah would get nothing free, mandela would get nothing free,,, they are but people, noone is special

      Marion - 2011-12-07 11:28

@benjaminvanstaden... many of us have times when we can't afford petrol, particularly now that the prices are so ridiculous, but surely you either come to an arrangement with your normal petrol station or borrow money before you put petrol into your tank? Or you walk / use taxis until you can afford petrol. ???

  • Airborne68 - 2011-12-07 07:01

    Celebi?

  • Bijendradas - 2011-12-07 07:23

    Is this really news???

      aardvarkie - 2011-12-07 08:39

      Is this really a comment?

  • Peter - 2011-12-07 07:31

Interesting that the celeb is not named in this article.

      northsgn - 2011-12-07 07:33

      its that idiot DArren Simpson

      Go - 2011-12-07 07:49

@peter - I agree - makes you think though. The garage owner has obviously not laid a charge, yet we get the sensational headline that some "celeb" hasn't paid for his petrol lol. Worst of all, we all read it and then comment on it lol

      Hans - 2011-12-07 09:03

The garage is getting free advertising. The owner will become famous and his sales will go up.It's a master plan by the owners. This incident probably didn't happen.Just a theory, I hope I am wrong.

      Marion - 2011-12-07 11:32

@Hans... the petrol station has laid a charge otherwise the police would not be involved. What has happened is that the police have not formally charged said celebrity yet. And as pitiful as the article may seem, crime is crime and when 'role models *uuugggghhh*' break the law it should be made public so that people can decide whether they still consider the person to be worthy of being someone they / their kids look up to.

      Natalie - 2011-12-07 12:28

because he hasnt been charged yet...

      Hans - 2011-12-07 12:37

@Marion -I was trying to make a joke.Maybe he is related to one of the cops or is heavily connected politicaly. Either way I am trying to look for a reason as to why they haven't charged him. What should happen is that we must all go to the same petrol station and refuse to pay. Let us then see what the reaction of the cops will be.

"Police could not reveal the man's identity because he had not been charged yet." - what cr@p, how often have we seen "the police are looking for John Smith in connection with a robbery". Methinks that this puffed up celebrity is so politically connected that they dont want to publish his name.

      Deon - 2011-12-07 08:58

That is the law. Police are extra carefull when they deal with people with money.
