ANCYL honour Mandela through song

Johannesburg - South Africans should celebrate former president Nelson Mandela's life well-lived, even as they pray for the ailing former president, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Thursday.

"The events around us dictate that we pass our salutations to the leader of our people, the father of the nation, a great thinker, unifying force, Nelson Mandela," Mbalula said.

"Ours is the past to inherit and the future we seek to create, and in that future we seek to create, we walk in the footsteps of great leaders and giants of our revolution that have come before us.

"It is, therefore, befitting for all of us at this hour of darkness to think and pray for Nelson Mandela, but to celebrate a life well lived, and that is why we say long live Nelson Mandela."

Mbalula was speaking at the launch of the fourth World Conference on Doping in Sport in Sandton.

Mandela, who was admitted to hospital on 8 June, remains in critical condition at the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria.
