Cell thief caught in mid-stream

Pretoria - A suspected cellphone thief in Mamelodi jumped into a stream to escape angry residents before being arrested, Pretoria police said on Monday.

"Police were on patrol in Mamelodi East when they joined a group of people chasing a suspect," said Inspector Lukas Sithole.

In an effort to evade them, the 26-year-old jumped into a stream at Lusaka informal settlement, but was soon arrested.

A cellphone, and a knife he allegedly used to hold up his victim, were found in his possession.
