Census 2011: Households not counted

2011-10-31 15:19

Johannesburg - A number of households have not been counted across the country by Monday morning as Census 2011 drew close to an end.

"Our operations on the ground indicate that there are still households we have not counted," statistician general Pali Lehohla said at media briefing in Pretoria.

Monday was the last day of the 21-day enumeration phase, which included the distribution of about 20 million questionnaires.

Lehohla said families which had not been counted would be visited during a two week "mop-up exercise", which starts on Tuesday.

Stats SA could consider an extension.

"We can only decide after compiling information which comes in later today," he said.

    We were not counted.

      rbphiri - 2011-10-31 15:47

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula was counted several times in several female house holds. Jokes aside...but we should all get counted to get this census thing over and done with. I want to see if the government will really be able to accomodate people's needs according to the figures obtained. Perhaps government wants an exact figure of how many votes they can manipulate and screw over.

      Bryan - 2011-10-31 15:53

Not counted yet either..! This would have been much easier, less costly and more accurate if the population could have done the questionaire on line..!!

      Chumscrubber1 - 2011-10-31 16:27

Nor us, or anybody on our road.

      K0BUSL - 2011-10-31 16:49

Don't worry, our office staff confirmed they were counted twice, Once at their dwelling here in Jo'burg where they rent and a second time at their family homestead in KZN. See everything about CENSUS 2011 worked very well.

    me too

  • johan.opperman1 - 2011-10-31 15:28

Got my form which I wanted to complete in my own time. Nobody came to collect it though.

  • Peter - 2011-10-31 15:29

Take the information from SARS!!! Most people who are not counted are likely to be all frustrated taxpayers, I do not see the reason why would the poor refuse stats SA to count them. By refusing to be counted, you are making it worse for an ailing government to be able to budget accurately. Help Stats SA to improve the country, please.

      Duanne - 2011-10-31 16:20

I never refused to be counted, I'm a tax payer and I haven't been counted in this Census or the 2001 Census. I have no faith in Census data at all.

  • Freddie - 2011-10-31 15:31

I have not been counted. But then again whites don't count according to the ANC. We just pay taxes and keep the economy going.

  • Andriette - 2011-10-31 15:34

Still have not seen any census worker in our complex...

  • Theresa - 2011-10-31 15:36

Maybe if the census officials had done more work and less lounging,on street corners and in parks, there could have been more households counted!

      Servaas - 2011-10-31 15:38

They were resting before the big march..

  • Vaughan - 2011-10-31 15:43

I have not been counted nor any of my 83 staff. So I don't think it is worth all the money that was spent doing it. More tax payers money just wasted.

  • Michelle - 2011-10-31 15:45

We weren't counted! They're like ghosts and lottery winners. Hear about them but never see them!!

  • Bongani - 2011-10-31 15:50

i see we are at it again. complaining. I was counted and i answered all questions. No i do not stay in a township or flat, google me if you want. Do not have a tender too. you say something negative you better make sure you do not work for me, because i will fire you.

      Jay - 2011-10-31 16:13

      :-)))))))) I am soooo scared

      Peter - 2011-10-31 16:15

Dont stress your bussiness isnt strong enough to employ educated people, what a stupid statement you make, and you want people to take you seriously? Luto Pezulu!

      Dmitri - 2011-10-31 16:17

Looking at your profile, I would not boast, I would get a real job!!! Fire me!!!

      Duanne - 2011-10-31 16:25

Thing is I WANT to participate and I see the value in census data, but this is not the way to do it. I haven't been counted in this census or the last - it costs us millions to do this and the data just can't be accurate . . not with +-50 million people who need to be counted. Just look at the posts on this page, how many people weren't counted. India's biometric demographics database may be a better way to do this . . and they are collecting data on 1.2 billion people, not just 50 million!

      Mike - 2011-10-31 16:28

Bongani stop playing on my computer and go finish mowing the lawn. You still have to wash my car before I drop you at the taxi rank.

      Freddie - 2011-11-01 12:47

      Grow up.

  • EyesEars - 2011-10-31 15:50

@ Peter. The only reason why the census are being done, is so the goverment can borrow more moeny overseas, for so-called projects (that are being mentioned) but never see the day of light, as each head in the world has got an amount on it. Nothing to do with SA Stats; just being the front.

  • Samantha - 2011-10-31 15:57

no one has come to count us!

  • Peter - 2011-10-31 16:01

Yip done in real SA style, I found 3 censor guys sleeping under a big tree (13h00), They eventually knocked on my door at 8pm, I told them to piss off its too late, Best part i have them sleeping and him telling me to go to hell at my door after telling him its too late on video on my cell.

  • Kim - 2011-10-31 16:23

I was threatened with a R10 000 fine because I was not home! Then I was told they'll come back today, but no time was given. Cut-off is 5pm today. Doesn't help that no one is home during the day. They eventually came back on Sunday evening.

  • Dylan - 2011-10-31 16:27

We weren't counted either. Strangely, only one person I know has been counted.

  • antoinette.jordaan - 2011-10-31 16:32

Yet to be counted - I have been checking my mailbox too, just in case they've left notes or something like that. Nada. I know they were there - I saw the guy standing outside our complex, staring at the numbers. Didn't come in though........he would've done fine, as it was 6 pm with a lot of folks coming home. Weird.

  • Deo - 2011-10-31 16:32

Strangely, I haven't been coubnted and today is 31 October.

  • Linda - 2011-10-31 16:41

I haven't been counted either... then again I am like the last house in Simon's Town... which is about as far as you can get off the continent without actually being in the ocean. I did however find the census people in my road, took a form and will fill it in. they said they will collect it tomorrow... We'll see!

  • johannekie - 2011-10-31 16:55

We haven't been counted either. I've seen them walking around in our area, but they haven't come when we were home. The neighbours said that they were there at 1 pm on a Friday, but we are working class and and they never came after hours.

  • lecindajvrensburg - 2011-10-31 17:29

    We haven't been counted...

  • Ron - 2011-10-31 18:09

You can only be counted if the census officials can count. If you have more than three people in your household, they're buggered as thay can't count that high.

  • malinda.cassidy - 2011-10-31 19:57

We have not been counted. No note left to contact anyone. And we understand that we have to be counted. Everybody must be counted. What can we do to be counted? We live in a suburb - do not know why we were not contacted.
