Pretoria - Just a week after the statue of Chief Tshwane was unveiled in front of the city hall in Pretoria, vandals have painted it in the colours of the old South African flag.
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Superintendent Alta Fourie said the statue, which was found painted on Friday morning, must have been vandalised on Thursday night.
"We found it vandalised this morning, and we suspect the incident happened overnight" she said.
Except for the orange, white and blue paint, the letters 'BB' were also painted on the statue.
Fourie said city council park rangers would be deployed in the area to prevent reoccurrence of the incident.
"We can fortunately not post the police officers at every statue in the city," she added
She said the paint would be cleaned off the statue on Friday afternoon.
