Child abuser gets 24yrs

Bloemfontein - A 41-year-old man was sentenced to 24 years in prison by Bloemfontein High Court on Monday for sexually molesting his 15-year-old disabled daughter, police said.

Constable Thandi Mbambo said the man had molested his daughter on several occasions between 1995 and 1997 when they were living at Wilgehof, Bloemfontein but this was only brought to the attention of police in February 2001 when the father was arrested.

The case was guided through the long process of the law by Inspector Kobus Haasbroek of the child protection unit.

Mbambo said the child had now been placed in the care of the Free State Welfare Centre for the Disabled.
