Grahamstown - A probation officer on Monday recommended to the High Court here that a 24-year-old man convicted of raping a three-year-old girl in 2004 should be sentenced to life in prison.
Felize Ntangenkabi, of Old Location, Elliot, was convicted last November by Judge Fatima Dawood of raping the girl at his house on February 4 2004.
Ntangenkabi was also convicted of one count of housebreaking with intent to rape, rape and two counts of indecent assault after raping a 13-year-old girl and assaulting her sister on December 6 2004.
Probation officer Zukiswa Kralo, who prepared a pre-sentencing report on Ntangenkabi, said "he has shown no remorse over the sexual assaults on the girls".
"He does not show, or display any feelings whatsoever for his little victims, and I think a life sentence is an appropriate one in this case.
"The little girl was badly injured, and he has a complete lack of insight into what he has done to her."
Should spend 'a very, very long time' in jail
Kralo told the court that Ntangenkabi needed "a structured and disciplined environment provided and despite his young age, he should remain in prison for a very, very long time."
Ntangenkabi was arrested shortly after raping the three-year-old, but after being released on bail in December, he broke into the house of a 13-year-old girl and raped her and then indecently assaulted her by forcing her to masturbate him.
He also indecently assaulted her three-year-old sister by placing his tongue in her mouth as she lay sleeping in the same room.
A clinical psychologist, who assessed Ntangenkabi in the local prison, is due to present her report to the court on Tuesday.
Sentencing is expected shortly thereafter.
