Johannesburg - The body of a 3-year-old girl was discovered by a farmworker in Vredendal, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer November Philander said the mother reported the child missing on Monday, and that the body was discovered later the same day.

A post mortem showed that the child died from being hit on the head with a blunt object. There was also evidence that she had been raped.

No arrests had been made.

Asked to confirm SABC reports that two children could have been responsible for the murder, he responded: "We are investigating all allegations".

A case of child neglect had been opened against the mother, Philander said.

Child criminals or not, they deserve a bullet in the back of the head for this.

Why is it that you get hundreds of comments on a rugby news bulletin but when a child is raped and murdered there is hardly any uproar about it?

unfortunately in our country, no matter how much we talk about things nothing gets done. I wish the death penalty could be brought back...

I do not know the answer to this or if the death penalty is going to help. Court cases nowadays takes years to be finalised. Maybe we should stop talking and think of something we can do to stop the total lack of respect for a life in this country.

I have been wondering. Can't the public get together every third month, discuss all kinds of issues whether it is murder, water, electricity or what-ever, and a spokesperson present our thoughts and decisions (we vote amongs ourselves)on how things should be done to the ruling party who in turn reports back to parliament. They then put in place a system accordingly, and if it works, it remains so. What does not work, gets changed. This way the public has a say in the country and how it is run. I know this is a very basic way of putting it. I am no politician and do not pretend to know it all. Perhaps someone out there has a better solution, but main thing is that any party does not get the only say so. I think the public should also get the opportunity to raise their opinion on how they perceive the country should be run AS LONG AS it is to the BENEFIT of ALL.
