MSUNDUZI Municipality has pledged to clean up the streets and patch the potholes in preparation for this year’s Mandela Day Marathon.

The municipality has budgeted R300 000 for the race. An amount of R150 000 in “in-kind support” will be given in the form of traffic and security, pothole patching, cleaning services before and after the race, and the services of the disaster management team during the two-day event.

This was reported during the executive council meeting yesterday at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall. Day one of the Mandela Day Marathon will include trail running, mountain biking, a children’s race and triathlons. The VIP race, 10 km, 21,1 km half marathon and the grand 42,2 km race will take place the next day.

The marathon, which is scheduled for August 29 and 30 this year, will start at the KwaManaye Hall in Imbali and end at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick.
