Clinic set up for Mthatha food poisoning
Mthatha - The Eastern Cape health department has set up a mobile clinic at an Mthatha school where hundreds of pupils are suffering from suspected food poisoning.
Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said on Wednesday that about 400 students, all staying at a hostel at the Umtata Technical High School, were suffering from stomach cramps and diarrhoea, with some even "collapsing".
They had started showing the symptoms on Tuesday.
The clinic was set up at the school on Wednesday morning, and some of the pupils had required rehydration.
The department had asked the local authority to send health officers to investigate, as food poisoning was suspected.
