Coega Copper makes tv debut

Port Elizabeth - The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) has lifted a rare butterfly, endemic to the area around the multi-billion dollar development, from ecological obscurity and turned it into the star of a series of television advertisements.
The first of the Port Elizabeth-made adverts promoting the Coega development and featuring the Aloeides clarki, commonly known as the Coega Copper, will be seen for the first time on South African television on Sunday, the CDC said in a statement.
"The Coega Copper was a natural symbol for the Coega IDZ (industrial development zone)," CDC spokesperson Vuyelwa Vika said. "It is another example of our ongoing commitment to the environment."
Work at the Coega site is in full swing, with a R2.6bn deepwater port, a R1.8bn French-owned aluminium smelter and millions of rands worth of residential and commercial development earmarked for the industrial development zone and adjacent areas.
