Cold front set to bring wintry weather

2012-05-16 12:12

Johannesburg - South Africans have been warned to expect some seriously cold weather over the weekend, as a cold front brings the first winter weather of the year.

Beeld
reports that the cold front will hit coastal areas on Thursday night and that those in the interior will be feeling the cold by Saturday.

“After the cold front, people can keep their unpacked winter clothes out because the cold will definitely stay,” said weather forecaster Jan Vermeulen.

Gauteng had been seeing some warm weather lately, with Pretoria and Johannesburg basking in temperatures in the high 20s.

  • brionyl.french - 2012-05-16 13:38

    I hate the cold

  • Deana - 2012-05-16 14:25

Let us just remember to say a prayer for all those less fortunate. No blankets, shelter, beds even. Not to mention a warm meal, coffee or cuddling under thick blankets in front of a tv. Especially babies, small children and old people. Being cold and hungry is unimaginable to most of us- but the hard reality of live for millions in SA.

      npretorius2 - 2012-05-16 15:53

Lets rather all donate a blanket and jersey instead of saying a prayer... Saying a prayer for the poor in winter is like sharing a link to give someone a new liver...

      Squeegee - 2012-05-16 17:56

Do something positive. Go to: www.harvestaid.org

      Deana - 2012-05-16 19:22

@npretorius2- never underestimate the power of prayer! I am sorry I only mentioned prayer and not donations.

      Arthur - 2012-05-17 09:22

Hey in June I'll be braving the cold along with a bunch of others to raise donations of blankets, clothes and food. Just google Round Table Winter Knights. If you're in Cape Town come visit us at the community center in Chess Road, Rondebosch. Last year we got 6 bakkieloads!

      Arthur - 2012-05-17 13:07

Forgot to add the date - saturday 23 June from 5pm until 5am! We will arrive in nothing but Tshirts and shorts and rely on public donations ;-)

  • Anakin - 2012-05-17 08:47

Starting the anthracite heater today, dirty and irritating, but try to heat a south-facing room with Eishkom electricity, it doesn't work, even a 3kW+ (biggest heater) still doesn't work. Anthracite coal expensive @R170/bag, have 12x for the winter, just need Eishkom to keep the power on for other normal things and one small 1kW heater. No, I don't like winter with it's cold wet winds and short days thank you.

  • Carol - 2012-05-17 08:58

I thank Eishkom for reminding me every evening of the beauty of a lit candle. I burn candles Summer and Winter. Winter especially, the heat from the flame of the candles warm the air in the room. Snuggly fleece blanket! Hot cup of soup or chocolate. Good company and a low electricity bill.

  • ArchAngel - 2012-05-17 09:25

About time, mates over there were starting to mention El Niño again.

  • LindiBleu - 2012-05-17 10:10

  • tripledunny - 2012-05-17 10:40
