Condoms found in deceased judge's robe
Cape Town - Erection tablets and a box of condoms were found in a pocket of a dead judge's court robes, the Western Cape High Court heard on Thursday.
Joy Ely-Hanslo, secretary to acting Judge Patrick Maqubela, told the court of her shock when she found the pills and the condoms whilst emptying the pockets of the robes.
She was testifying at the trial of the judge's widow, Thandi, and businessman Vela Mabena, who are charged with Maqubela's murder. They have pleaded not guilty.
Hanslo said the robes had been borrowed from Western Cape Judge Lee Bozalek, and that she had to return them after the news of Maqubela's death.
She said: "I had to empty the pockets of the deceased judge's personal belongings, and was shocked to find the pills and condoms. I didn't want to touch them and gave them to a police officer who was present in the judge's office at the time."
Justice Minister Jeff Radebe told the court earlier in the trial of a meeting he had with the widow, when she complained about her husband's sexual addiction and of his many extra marital affairs.
