Condoms found in deceased judge's robe

2011-11-17 16:30

Cape Town - Erection tablets and a box of condoms were found in a pocket of a dead judge's court robes, the Western Cape High Court heard on Thursday.

Joy Ely-Hanslo, secretary to acting Judge Patrick Maqubela, told the court of her shock when she found the pills and the condoms whilst emptying the pockets of the robes.

She was testifying at the trial of the judge's widow, Thandi, and businessman Vela Mabena, who are charged with Maqubela's murder. They have pleaded not guilty.

Hanslo said the robes had been borrowed from Western Cape Judge Lee Bozalek, and that she had to return them after the news of Maqubela's death.

She said: "I had to empty the pockets of the deceased judge's personal belongings, and was shocked to find the pills and condoms. I didn't want to touch them and gave them to a police officer who was present in the judge's office at the time."

Justice Minister Jeff Radebe told the court earlier in the trial of a meeting he had with the widow, when she complained about her husband's sexual addiction and of his many extra marital affairs.

You go judge! There was certainly nothing boring in those legal briefs.

      Pete - 2011-11-17 16:47

He just wanted to make sure he was an upright judge if "tried" a wanton woman

      DerpyHooves - 2011-11-17 17:42

That judge was always known for his stiff sentences

  • Andrea - 2011-11-17 16:41

Sounds like the widow planted those...

      Penny-wise - 2011-11-17 16:47

or the girlfriend. At least we know the judge wasn't too fussy with his ladies, or should we say, he wasn't hard up?

      Penny-wise - 2011-11-17 16:48

and btw ... OMG you're hot!!!

  • marazor - 2011-11-17 16:44

      Deon - 2011-11-17 16:46

      I agree

      Device - 2011-11-17 17:38

Thats how life goes doesn't it! practice safe sex so HIV doesn't get you and then you get murdered!

      Heinrich - 2011-11-17 20:22

I don't think it was so safe. He died in the end.

      Arvin - 2011-11-17 22:51

He didnt practice. He perfected it. An addict -- remember !!!!!

  • marazor - 2011-11-17 16:47

I wonder what's this got to do with the fact that this woman killed his husband for cash!!! The fact that the judge had some 'fun' does not make this woman any less guilty...

      BMcB - 2011-11-17 17:45

I obviously agree with you if she murdered him for cash only but, depending on the circumstances, should be found less guilty if her husband was sleeping around.

      godesha - 2011-11-18 08:15

Marazor, for once I agree with you. If she was so unhappy about him having some fun on the side why did she not divorce him?

  • SamuraiMama - 2011-11-17 16:47

OH. MY. GOD!! Should we speculate and ASSUME that this adult practiced safe sex?!?! COME ON, News24! Stop sensationalising crap!

  • Ally - 2011-11-17 16:52

Why was the woman shocked? Heavens above! Joy, you'll be more than welcome in the world of grown-ups when you've, well, grown up just a bit more.

  • dplessis - 2011-11-17 17:29

I guess as he is no lenger there to respond the defence team can submit whatever they wish and probably also produce whatever evidence they want to make him out to be the villain.

  • Freddy - 2011-11-17 17:43

      Pete - 2011-11-18 06:31

No he just followed the example set by Zuma, he just didn't trust the shower theory

  • leah.molatseli - 2011-11-17 21:16

Perhaps there might be truth then in his wife's statement to minister Jeff Radebe about him being a sex addict, just maybe. No such thing as a concidence

  • alan.erwin1 - 2011-11-18 07:48

An UP-right judge. Always be prepared, man of action.

  • litsoanelot - 2011-11-18 13:14

This is just madness, this alleged character evidence ( sex addict) of the late judge is just irrelevent here. This is not an adultery case. Why are we proving adultery ince again?

  • Nikki Bodenstein - 2011-11-18 20:46

Who cares whether or not he could get it up? Stupid news article

  • yiga.muzamilu - 2012-08-17 15:07
