Constitution not under threat - Zuma
Johannesburg - The Constitution is not under threat from the ANC, President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.
"Claims that the Constitution is under threat from the ruling party are mischievous," he told a constitutional symposium in Johannesburg.
Zuma said even on the day the country celebrated its freedom, April 27, "people cry the Constitution is under threat".
The DA on Tuesday marched to Constitution Hill where party leader Helen Zille cautioned that the Constitution was in danger from the ANC under Zuma.
"He [Zuma] has undermined the Constitution to make sure he does not have to go to court and answer to over 700 counts of corruption against him," Zille said.
Zuma said, however, the ANC contributed to the Constitution's creation and would "defend it to the end".
'We worked for it. We will be the first and last to defend the Constitution," he said.
