Cape Town - An old shipping container which has been converted into a library will be delivered to a school in Dimbaza, outside Cape Town, this week.

The library, which cost R120 000 to renovate, would be given to Nobuntu Senior Primary School on Friday as part of a poverty eradication initiative supported by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

"The portable, versatile and securely recycled containers provide instant and vital infrastructure," said Tim Smith, director of the NGO Breadline Africa, which was responsible for the project.

The initiative had delivered 10 container libraries across South Africa.

Two other schools in the Eastern Cape  would be given container libraries in October.
