Contaminated Diepsloot water tested again
Johannesburg - The results of new tests done on water found to be contaminated in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg, will only be available late on Tuesday, the city said.
"Samples were taken this morning at 02:00. The results will only be available very late tonight," said spokesperson Millicent Kabwe.
She said the city would release a statement on the results early on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kabwe said in a statement said the water was found to be contaminated following a third water test conducted on Monday.
"The only area which is safe at this point is Diepsloot West. The Diepsloot West pumps will therefore be opened for normal use later tonight [Tuesday]."
Water tankers and task teams were to be deployed throughout Diepsloot with priority given to the elderly, children and the disabled.
Kabwe said officials were working to restore drinkable water to the rest of Diepsloot as soon as possible.
Residents were notified by the city on Friday to not drink tap water.
