Johannesburg - A KwaZulu-Natal police captain accused of
executing a robber has appeared in the Pinetown Regional Court, the Independent
Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said Captain Dumisani Dladla
was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in court on the same day.
He was released on a warning.
Dlamini said the captain was involved in a shoot-out with
robbers at a Pinetown KFC in October last year.
An officer and one of the robbers were killed in the
shoot-out.
"At the time, it was alleged that the suspected
robber was shooting at the police captain and that there was an exchange of
fire," Dlamini said.
"An investigation was conducted and it found that
the deceased was shot execution style, while not posing a threat to the
policeman."
He said the captain had "covered up" the
incident.
"The IPID is looking into the possibility that other
police officers were complicit in the cover-up."
