Johannesburg - An Eastern Cape policeman was allegedly found in possession of stolen copper on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.
Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku said a resident alerted authorities to the 32-year-old sergeant allegedly trying to sell the metal, worth around R30 000.
He was arrested in Wilsonia, near East London. The copper was stolen from the Buffalo City municipality, Eskom, and Telkom.
Deputy provincial police commissioner, Major General Zamuthonga Mki, said: "We promise to have punitive measures taken against the member concerned."
The officer was expected to appear in the East London Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of possession of suspected stolen goods.
