Johannesburg - A police constable was arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of a taxi owner in Malamulele, Limpopo police said.
Spokesperson Mohale Ramatseba said the 30-year-old constable, stationed at Malamulele police station, was arrested in Mavambe village. Taxi owner Given Hlungwane, of Shibangwa village in Malamulele, was shot dead on Sunday.
"It is reported the taxi owner was driving his bakkie in Malamulele when he saw a person in the middle of the road," said Ramatseba.
"He alighted from the car and went to the person in the road and was shot several times all over his body. The victim was killed instantly."
The constable's official service pistol had been recovered and would form part of investigation.
"The motive for the killing is not yet clear," he said.
The constable would appear in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
