Johannesburg - A police constable was arrested on Sunday for allegedly helping a wanted man evade arrest, Limpopo police said.
The 31-year-old constable was arrested in Tembisa, Gauteng, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.
He was expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
The officer allegedly helped a man involved in a cash-in-transit robbery escape from the police and make his way to Gauteng. During the robbery in May, four men stole three cash boxes from Coin Security guards.
In a separate incident a 43-year-old officer attached to the Hawks in Polokwane was fired on Friday for trying to extort money from a woman accused of fraud, in exchange for destroying the docket.
In November last year the woman allegedly tried to repay a R250 000 loan with a fraudulent cheque.
The officer then approached the woman and allegedly got her to pay him R1 300. A trap was set and he was arrested.
