Johannesburg - A police constable was arrested on Sunday for allegedly helping a wanted man evade arrest, Limpopo police said.

The 31-year-old constable was arrested in Tembisa, Gauteng, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

He was expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of defeating the ends of justice.

The officer allegedly helped a man involved in a cash-in-transit robbery escape from the police and make his way to Gauteng. During the robbery in May, four men stole three cash boxes from Coin Security guards.

In a separate incident a 43-year-old officer attached to the Hawks in Polokwane was fired on Friday for trying to extort money from a woman accused of fraud, in exchange for destroying the docket.

In November last year the woman allegedly tried to repay a R250 000 loan with a fraudulent cheque.

The officer then approached the woman and allegedly got her to pay him R1 300. A trap was set and he was arrested.

It occurs to me that someone needs to explain to police officers what they are actually supposed to be doing in their job. They seem confused about this point...

Well look at almost every thing the ruling party does - leads to a probe, or an investigation to corruption - they are seriously destroying the little respect thay still have 9 sorry to say that but they are black) - if they were any other colour it would have reacted the same result.

what is new - ! no leader in the ANC led government leads by example - now how do they even expect the SAP whose leaders one after the other are found guilty of crime be an example to the lower ranking officers. This country is in a serious mess of mal-administration, corruption, nepotism, greed and crime
