Cop held for taking R20 bribe

2012-10-04 20:57

Johannesburg - A metro police officer was arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of R20 from a taxi driver in Roodepoort on Thursday, Johannesburg metro police said.

"The officer, said to have 15 years' service, was working alone, which made the investigative unit suspicious," Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

The unit watched the officer from a distance and saw him take a R20 note from a taxi driver.

The taxi driver admitted to handing over the money.

Minnaar said the officer would be charged, and face internal disciplinary action.

You must be joking. Arrested for allegedly taking a R 20 bribe? What about Zuma and Shaik? Surprised that SA is the CRIME CAPITAL of the world?

      sharon.erwin.96 - 2012-10-04 22:18

What is the difference between R20 and 203 million???? There is no difference - they are one and the same..

      Bruce - 2012-10-05 01:15

I can't believe how numerically challenged you are, R20 bucks and R203 million are equal? Really?..wish you were a teller at my bank #big sigh

      dimitripappas - 2012-10-05 02:03

Gosh Bruce, are you so thick that you are 100% unable to read between the lines? He's referring to the concept of corruption -- in that context, taking a bribe for R1 is just as corrupt as taking a bribe for R1mil - corruption is a boolean, quantity is irrelevant

      Erna - 2012-10-05 06:39

It's the principle of bribing that matters, not the monetory value.

      VikashNowath - 2012-10-05 12:08

true the amount is irrelavant cops need to live also. Honestly i would pay a bribe and not pay taxes that way i know where my money is going. even traffic fines get swindled out of the system into politicians pockets. when do we win???>

You should be ashamed of yourself. Weren't you taught any values or morals? No wonder SA and the rest of Africa is what it is.

You shouldn't have paid him anything.

  • BatongaBoro - 2012-10-04 22:07

big deal, i am aware of someone who once bribed a cop with R2 and half a can of Coke.

  • jimi.vanderwesthuizen - 2012-10-04 22:13

Probably get suspended with full pay for at least a year. Found not guilty because the evidence disappeared and yhen get re-instated with a promotion to another cANCer depeartment. That is how it works in Jozi and the rest of Africa.

  • brandon.mccutcheon.56 - 2012-10-04 22:28

I wonder if the cops arresting him have ever taken a bribe.

      matsieddy.malebatso - 2012-10-04 22:34

They arrested him because he refused to pay them a bribe. The thought of splitting R20 got him arrested.

  • irene.buthelezi.1 - 2012-10-04 22:39

Both the cop and the taxi driver should be locked up.

  • palesa.r.ralitabo - 2012-10-04 23:22

  • Bruce - 2012-10-05 00:52

WTF? Since when has it been against the law to donate to the needy on the side of the road? The poor cop was hungry and thirsty and the \snitch\ taxi driver gave him a donation towards lunch, nothing with helping out a fellow human.
