Cop kills friend for not partying

2012-07-16 13:30

Cape Town - A policeman is being held for a man's murder in Nyanga, Cape Town, at the weekend, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said on Monday.

Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the Bellville constable allegedly shot his friend Sakhiwe Njokweni, 23, while he was sleeping on Saturday night.

Njokweni had apparently been drinking with friends earlier in the evening when he decided to go home and sleep.

Dlamini said the policeman and another friend went to his home to wake him up and party further. He apparently refused their request and was shot in his bed.

The policeman fled the scene and was arrested. He would appear in the Nyanga Magistrate's Court later on Monday.

Dlamini said a case of defeating the ends of justice had also been opened against a client service centre commander for being drunk on duty and not helping detain the constable.

No seriously now. There HAS to be something seriously wrong with this type of mentality that is all to prevelant in the mindset of many of our people. Alcohol may well have fuelled the fire, but the intent to maim, kill by means of stabbing, shooting or whatever other " weapon " is on hand, with little or no thought for the consequences. If they are not burning or looting, this type appears to resort to any other means to cause destruction or wipe out a life. Perhaps a full physcological study needs to be done, to find out how this or these type of people are able to behave in the manner they do. There has to be a genetic brain defect indigenous to this type !

One cannot help but wonder what part "our" Government's continued affirmative action policies played in this. With forced transformation you will NOT see the cream of the crop occupying important positions in society. Instead you get people like Moses..

      chaplinncharlie - 2012-07-16 14:26

@Rob... there is a difference and it's being proofed on a daily basis... Just a pity they don't realize it...

  • jomardl - 2012-07-16 13:41

Yes there are good cops too but man there's some garbage in the police!

      Konstabel - 2012-07-16 13:48

I feel sorry for the good cops that are still left. Their reputation is tarnished by this sort of madness.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-07-16 14:12

      Agreed.

  • siya.jr - 2012-07-16 13:43

      bwahaha. Too sharp. Nice one.

  • Lennon Chenga - 2012-07-16 13:44

Why are these constables allowed to take these weapons home in light of all these social shootings? There is a report at least every month now of off-duty officers shooting friends, family and relatives!!

  • betsy.dorris - 2012-07-16 13:48

Serious? Really? What the hell is going here...?

  • gennath - 2012-07-16 13:51

There's nothing I could say to justify this action, but as someone that knows a few people in the police service, I can honestly say that these people are under an incredible amount of stress. Until we see things like this as a symptom of a sick South Africa, we'll never see the light of day.

      Esther - 2012-07-16 14:15

Stress? No more like 'I am so powerful because I have a gun' (and no brains)

  • vambozha.mutemi - 2012-07-16 14:09

    give them sjamboks not guns...

  • martin.ferguson.7311 - 2012-07-16 14:10

      On the contrary...

  • rory.audie - 2012-07-16 14:11

you gotta fight..... for your right...... to PARTY!!!!

  • BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-07-16 14:11

Sorry, I know there are good cops, but if there is one of this type then how many more are there like this nut in the force? Very scary. As for the drunk client service commander...... There can be no respect for a police force such as this.

  • TheyTookMyNickLaZynEko - 2012-07-16 14:14

please GET RID OF THIS SCUM THANKS.

  • jeffrey.jones.357 - 2012-07-16 14:14

News on the TV said the guy was shot in his head. News24 says he was shot in his bed. This is very confusing.

      Jane - 2012-07-16 16:43

could he have been lying in his bed when they shot him in the head? seems pretty easy to understand?

  • Matthew - 2012-07-16 14:18

Just another brilliant example of the men and women that SAPS hires for the job.Real thourogh bred crime fighters this lot. Typical nonsense. And they go as far to say that these are the people that will stop the gangsters and that they are more than capable...yeah right

  • ben.louw.5 - 2012-07-16 14:22

Pathetic. Our civil servants incl gov is a absolute circus...

    Killah b killed!

  • mogolobaneng - 2012-07-16 14:28

No offence intended for loyal and decent cops, but truly speaking our system employs jokes for serving as cops. There is something terribly wrong with the recruitment policy of the SAPS! taking into account senseless and stupidly motivated killings these excuses for human beings carry out, it looks asif the recruitment policy requires demented members of the public.

  • Gavin - 2012-07-16 14:31

when I was in the cops back in the day, our unit commander had to confiscate the guns from one of our companies as they got sh_t faced and played cowboys and indians with their firearms.

  • devon.riley.52 - 2012-07-16 14:32

    Hang em

  • andrea.wyk - 2012-07-16 14:34

    WTF...

  • Mlamli - 2012-07-16 14:38

There is something we don't know that these 2 guys know. Maybe they had a problem while they were drinking together earlier on or perhaps they were sharing a girlfriend. What is clear to me is that even if the guy had agreed to go he would have been killed anyway.

  • hosia.modiga - 2012-07-16 14:51

yooo thats how dangerous it is not to pay a bribe,if a fellow cop was killed for not partying!!!

  • Makhavele - 2012-07-16 14:55

  • rob.tubbs.39 - 2012-07-16 17:58

This is a indication of the lack of training our Police have - if any... What happened was that MK (Government) had so many 'so called' freeedom fighters doing nothing looking for jobs that they were employed as Policemen/ Soldiers - qualifications mean nothing... Go to a Police Station and try and make a 'staement' - end up making it yourself... Female Sergeant more interested in what was up her nose, than taking a statement. This is fact... God help us.....

  • Hasani P - 2012-07-16 18:42

but why God? why should someone be killed for refusing to party? why ?

  • thandazab - 2012-07-16 21:26

Something similar happened to a guy from my neighbourhood. He was called by his cousin and friends to come join them apparently they wanted to go wif him somewhere bt he refused, wasn't feeling well. Da cousin jokingly whipped out his gun (also police officer) and aimed it to his head n shot him dead!!! He is now in jail n very traumatized for killing his cousin whom he was also close to. Tragic really. Both very young ppl! ALCOHOL IRRESPONSIBLE young men WITH GUNS = DISASTER! One should never play with a gun. I dnt believe he intentionally killed him it was just alcohol fueled bravado n stupidity on his part!
