Cop kills self, girlfriend at station

2012-04-16 14:28

Johannesburg - A police constable shot and killed his girlfriend at the Moot police station in Pretoria before turning the gun on himself, Gauteng police said on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said the 25-year-old constable shot his girlfriend around 07:00 on Monday after completing his midnight shift.

"Police members tried to convince the constable to calm down, but he refused and took out his firearm. He shot the woman several times before turning the gun on himself."

The constable died on the scene. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

"It is believed that the couple had a disagreement before the shooting."

Police were investigating a case of murder.

  • Foc - 2012-04-16 14:41

I would think that is a little bit more than a 'disagreement' to say the least ... very sad!

  • Tumelo - 2012-04-16 14:47

There has been several public complaints about the mental/psycho state of the police and nothing is done about it! This is out of hand!

Some Police deserve to be given sjamboks only and not guns hehee

  • Hasani P - 2012-04-16 14:47

    what a crazy world

  • Farmworker - 2012-04-16 14:48

Thus why I don't want to own a Gun because I don't want to be in a situation where a sudden shut of mind is gonna make me kill myself and those I love. I urge every one to take time to think through what they see as insurmountable problem, well they come and go but you on the other hand you got one chance to live

      Tony Lapson - 2012-04-16 15:23

Woah man, should I organize immediate mental help for you? Because what you just said us that you are prone to murderous intentions and if you had a gun you might carry it out?

      Lorain - 2012-04-16 15:45

@ Vaal donkie your comments may lead people to believe otherwise.

      Farmworker - 2012-04-16 15:49

@Tony Lapson - and Vaal Donkie. Well I don't have big problems, and I can't say I will never have them, but my main point is it is very easy to kill someone with a gun if you have it at your disposal, unlike when you did not. Thus the reason why you will find that it is most police wo/men who kills their partner and self. I mean you can't argue with your partner and all of a sudden your step her/him to death, unless you don't have heart. But with a gun it is a totally different story because the culprit know that s/he can also take his/her own life quite easily. If they did not have a gun at their disposal I don't think they would have taken the same decision in a spit second

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-16 16:16

@farmworker, dont waste your time expaining yourself to Tony and Vaal. They are of their own kind.....Cape Townians are always high you moss. LOL

  • tawanda.gatsi - 2012-04-16 14:49

Another trigger happy cop...maybe they should take them for routine psycho test just to determine if they are fit to carry the weapon

      Nosiphom - 2012-04-16 15:06

Tawanda, apparently there are support structures where they can go and release the pressure, but apparently none of them want to go see the shrink, because those who do are laughed at by their colleagues. It is so tragic. Its two young lives lost. Our cops are among the most stressed in the world. They live on the cliff's edge, and they themselves do not realise when they get too close to the cliff's edge.

NOT ALL PEOPLE WHO GO FOR POLICE TRAINING ARE COMPETENT TO POSSESS FIREARMS ,SO SOME NEEDS TO FOR PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATIONS

  • Henry - 2012-04-16 15:05

Some people (cops, teachers, soldiers etc) are victims of 'ubushimane'. Killing a partner and commiting suicide is simply not a solution to any problems. Possesing a weapon and concluding that it shall help when 1 has life problems, then he needs to think again. For the police, murder investigation will not have any impact at all, because the culprit (they saw, has actually killed himself. They should have disarmed that constable because they saw him intend for a trouble. For them, having tried to downtalk him, was not enough.

      sabongam - 2012-05-16 11:31

Where the hell did you get the information that they lived together? There are number of reasons that she could have been there after he finished his night shift... Nowhere in the article does it mention that they lived together...I think you're just making assumptions and jumping to conclusions, annelie.

  • sfiso.tiswa - 2012-04-16 15:35

just wonder whats wrong with cops brains, do they really work? stupids

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-16 16:24

I dont think this has anything to do with "cops brains", domestic murder is common in this country and committed by people in different proffesions.

  • baxitoo - 2012-04-16 15:36

If you want to die, why tag another innocent person with?? Some people are sick.

  • sfiso.tiswa - 2012-04-16 15:38

but maybe they need more counseling or guns must be taken after work.

      Pulation - 2012-04-16 16:25

U r rite my brother dey shod leave de guns @ de station after work coz most of de accident happens wn de officers are off duty

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-16 16:29

Basically you are saying, a cop off duty should not react to any criminal act he comes across?

      Heiku - 2012-04-16 18:05

Siya basically you are saying that nobody should ever react to any criminal act unless armed? Sfiso has a good point, they are allowed to be drunk after work so probably not a good idea to give them guns.

  • billidp - 2012-04-16 15:39

This is why the 18 000 or so police that have not passed weapons training should NOT be given weapons!

  • Ridge - 2012-04-16 15:48

Plz my colleques if u hav personal problems, hand in ur firearms, seek proffesional help as we hav EAS in the organization. It is said 2 loose sum1 in this manner. Our partners are now afraid of us because of firearms we r carrying, they r no longer relaxed around us cos of this shootings.

  • Andre - 2012-04-16 16:02

So sorry, served a few years there as resrvist - friendly and committed policemen!!!

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-04-16 16:19

Another domestic murder. We should be worried about the increase in these cases. What could be the problem for the rise?

      Bongani - 2012-04-16 16:36

do we still call it domestic, even though the murder was committed at the police station? i think some comments here are uncalled for. leaving a gun at work can not solve a problem as it is clearly proven here. The guy used a gun at work not home. A violent person will always find a way to be violent.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-16 16:43

@bongani, So, according to you, if one has serious problems with his wife, follow her to a mall and kill her, its not domestic murder?

  • kasper.mbayi2 - 2012-04-16 16:40

I wonder why guys killing their girls when their lover is over?. Why don't let them live their life instead of ending their life. Because its not the end of your life if someone say she no longer love you.You can even live a better life without her.

  • mzijimmym - 2012-04-16 16:42

  • kasper.mbayi2 - 2012-04-16 17:00

To ladies please don't demand too much when you in love with someone. Because they will kill you when leaving them because they will think about how much they spent for you

  • Rob - 2012-04-16 18:17

Complete lack of Police training and ill discipline. I served 17 years in the BSAP (Rhodesia/Zimbabwe) and can not recall one similar incident during that time - Training and discipline. Need to say no more. RT
