Cop shoots wife, himself

Durban - A policeman shot dead his wife before committing suicide by turning the gun on himself in Umlazi, south of Durban, early on Monday morning, police said.
Spokesperson Inspector Rani John said the policeman, 47, held his wife hostage from 01:00.
Hostage negotiators tried to reason with him, but he shot his wife, 43. He refused further requests to hand over his weapon, shooting himself in the head.
John said the policeman was from the area crime combating unit in Durban South, based in Marianhill.
The names of the deceased would be released at a later stage.
