Durban - Two hijackers were arrested in Ladysmith on Thursday after finding that their intended victim was in fact a policewoman in her private car.
Police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig said the policewoman, who was driving her own car through the middle of Ladysmith, suddenly found two men forcing their way into her car as she waited for traffic lights to change. As soon as the men were in the car they demanded that she carry on driving.
Struwig said: "The policewoman was not in any mood to entertain their demands and gave them an earful."
The men realising that their intended victim was a police officer, jumped out her car and ran away.
"The policewoman pursued them down the road with her car. A short while later she managed to corner one of the men at the Ladysmith Herald office."
Struwig said two members of the public assisted the policewoman in arresting the thug.
The second man was chased by other police officers and he was arrested near Ladysmith High School.
The two men are expected to appear in court on charges of attempted hijacking.
