2011-12-02 13:57

Cape Town - A policeman was arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs to awaiting trial prisoners at the Vredendal Regional Court cells, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Captain Frederick Van Wyk said the 35-year-old officer was arrested after police had a man pose as a buyer for the inmates on Thursday.

"The suspect was arrested shortly after the money was exchanged."

Van Wyk said the officer would appear at the same court on Friday.

Can you imagine how many of such wrong personalities are within the police force. People are admitted to this police force due to non-availability of job and poor screening/shorlisting process. I think there should be a different harsher sentencing for any security personnel caught agaist the law. That will minimize such criminal behaviour

it happens everyday at most police stations. the cops in charge of the holding cells even have the gang bosses' cell numbers on their phone and place the orders from the inmates who then randomly choose awaiting trial prisoners for mules where they will shove condoms stuffed with drugs up your exhaust pipe to get it into the prisons.....these days finding an uncorrupted cop is like playing the lottery.

Another cop who will get a slap on the wrist and transferred to another Police station. There must be more crooks inside the force than what there are outside.

Let us see if there is any effective and clean and honest and decent cop around? Surely your "clients" aren't loaded, could manage to make a bigger buck elsewhere, anyhow, your pension payment awaits and some hanky panky in jail. Cheers

This article makes it sound as if this is some "NEW" phenomenon! The trafficking of drugs and other contraband in and out of prisons/jails has and always will be done in cahoots with the police/DOJ officials. There is no way around it.

What is happening to our Police Force? No ways are these the days when you can say to your kids, if in trouble go to the police, nowdays you tell them to stay away from them. Such a pity as there are good cops out there, but this is really giving them a bad name
