Cop who shot teen: Trial postponed

2012-07-23 14:37

Johannesburg - The murder trial of student constable Sipho Mbatha was postponed by the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.

Mbatha, 40, allegedly killed 16-year-old Thato Mokoka during a raid in Bramfischerville, Soweto, on 14 February.

The teenager was shot three times with an R5 rifle, while lying on the ground on his stomach outside the home of his grandmother Sybil Mokoka.

"The court has to hear at least three cases today. We unfortunately have to move one to another date," said Judge Kathleen Satchwell.

She moved the trial to Thursday.

Mbatha is out on R5 000 bail.
