Durban - A German tourist who was robbed at knifepoint on Durban's beachfront on Wednesday evening has been identified.
Point police spokesperson Captain Thembeka Luthuli said Manfred Schmitt, 65, was walking along Marine Parade at 17:20 on Wednesday when he was robbed.
"Four men with knives approached him and demanded cash and keys."
There was no injuries, she said.
Paramedics who responded to the emergency however disputed this. ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the tourist was stabbed in the buttocks.
"The man was treated on the scene by paramedics and taken privately to a nearby hospital. He was in a stable condition," Banks said.
Banks could not confirm which hospital the man was taken to. It was Schmitt's fifth and final day of a holiday in Durban. He was expected to fly to Taiwan on Thursday.
