Durban - Prominent businessman Prince Sifiso Zulu was arrested on Wednesday in connection with drunken driving charges and is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday, the Mercury newspaper reported.
Zulu has been embroiled in controversy since his BMW X5 was involved in a collision in Durban two weeks ago.
Two women died of injuries sustained in the crash.
Police spokesperson Director Phindile Radebe said Zulu's arrest on Wednesday was not linked to the fatal accident.
The driver of the car - who has not been named - fled the scene of the crash and is being sought by police.
Radebe said: "It is not related to the accident of March 29 and that matter is still under investigation. There was an outstanding warrant of arrest for him and he was taken into custody yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
"He had been stopped at a roadblock and was suspected of driving while under the influence. "The relevant processes were followed and it was established that Zulu was driving while intoxicated," she said.
Radebe said Zulu had appeared in court and was granted bail.
However, a warrant of arrest was issued when he failed to turn up for a subsequent court date.
