Johannesburg - A police swoop on the scene of an armed robbery at a house in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, early on Saturday morning, led to the arrests of three suspected robbers as well as the homeowner, suspected of running a chop shop.
The drama also saw one of the suspected robbers shoot himself in the leg - and a drug find in the house.
Superintendent Nthabiseng Mazibuko said that after arresting three gangsters, police discovered suspected stolen properties in the house, including three luxury German sedans, car spares and a "large number of electrical appliances".
She said the owner of the house was immediately arrested and would be charged with possession of stolen goods.
"Six small packets of cocaine were also found in the house," she said.
The goods as well as the gang's two vehicles and three handguns used in the robbery were confiscated, said Mazibuko.
She said before the arrests were made, one of the gang shot himself in the thigh and has been taken to Sebokeng Hospital under police guard.
Mazibuko said two members of the gang fled the scene with cellphones, jewellery and R2 000 in cash stolen from the house.
They remained at large.
