Cops bracing for Terre'Blanche judgment

2012-05-21 19:44

Johannesburg - North West police are preparing for possible large crowds gathering for the Eugene Terre'Blanche murder trial judgment at the High Court sitting in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

"The judgment is expected to be delivered from 09:00in the morning and a large crowd is expected," Brigadier Thulane Ngubane said on Monday.

"Based on previous confrontations between two groups outside the court police are expecting even worse situations than the previous ones and are up to the task."

Chris Mahlangu and a teenager are charged with beating Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging leader Terre'Blanche to death in his farmhouse outside Ventersdorp, North West, on 3 April 2010.

Both have pleaded not guilty to murder, housebreaking, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Mahlangu has claimed he acted in self-defence.

The teenager has denied involvement in the crime.

Ngubane said no unruly behaviour would be tolerated on Tuesday as there were rumours that people would be shot or killed if the judgment did not go a certain way.

"We also would like to warn any individual or grouping that may wish to threaten state security that they will meet the full might of the law and we dare them to test the capacity and the state of readiness of the SA police services."

Police units deployed to Ventersdorp for the duration of the trial include the crime prevention unit, public order police, flying squad, mounted unit as well as the air wing.

Only accredited people would be allowed to enter the court room and everyone else should remain within demarcated areas.

Provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo urged local residents to respect the court's ruling.

Blacks & whites have a long way to go in SA, but we(all cultures in SA) do have a great sense of humour.

Who cares. ET was an ebarrasement to the white community anyway.

      Jessica - 2012-05-21 20:10

Just like Zuma and other ANC are to the black commuity?

      Stefaans - 2012-05-21 20:12

Christopher you're a damn fool. Irrespective of what you believe, he was murdered. He was was murdered for political reasons, and you know it. He stood for something in his life, something that you would not have done. If you stand for something in life, you will always have people standing against you, as well as people standing with you. But if you stand for nothing (like you I suppose) There will never be people standing against you, and also no one standing with you. I care!!! And I stand for justice, may they rot in hell.!!

      Jackie - 2012-05-21 20:22

@Stefaans I can't help but laugh at the fact that you think farming is the same as politics.

      Eduard - 2012-05-22 06:55

Christopher....he actually was just stuck in his way....not all whites shared his views. So in that sense I agree with you. But he was murdered and that is what the actual issue is. A murder is a murder, does not matter who.

      DrGonzoSA - 2012-05-22 10:44

ET was scum. The world is a better place without him

  • tshepo.ally - 2012-05-21 20:09

eagerly waiting for this one. but the evidence given in the proceedings was a bit vague. it can swing either way.

      Atholl - 2012-05-21 21:15

Expect a judgment that will divide. The judge has had enough time. Expect a shift in focus from the evidence to the person.

@DrGonzoSA - exactly how I feel about the other protesters outside the court.

  • Atholl - 2012-05-21 21:09

For self defence there must be clear evidence of an imminent and overwhelming threat. AND the measures used to justify self defence must be equal to or less than the threat itself.

  • Digger - 2012-05-21 21:32

Yes these two must be punished and dealt with, murder is murder period. But let's face it, he was an idiot the likes of Malema and Mugabe to name just a few. And as stated by some here, an embarrassment to the white population. I am just relieved we only have a few of them knocking around, opposed to our present government and so called leaders.

The wheel has a way of turning and in most cases when a lie is told, the person telling the lie and the people aiding them to do so, usually get's their day. Maybe not in this lifetime, but they will get their day! We as humans don't have to do anything or lift a finger. The forces of nature will do their own thing to make sure that justice will prevail one way or the other and not even the police or any government institution will be able to stop it!
