Cops bust precious metal deal

Bloemfontein - A woman and two men were arrested in Welkom on Wednesday when gold-bearing material worth R500 000 was found in their possession, police said.
Police spokesperson Puleng Motsoeneng said police were acting on a tip-off about an illegal transaction in precious metals expected in the Welkom area.
While following-up the information, they stopped a vehicle in the Reitzpark area.
"Members of the task team, together with dog unit personnel stopped and searched the motor vehicle with three occupants inside," said Motsoeneng.
She said 24 balls of amalgam, weighing 5.424kg, were found and confiscated.
The woman, 45, from Theunissen and two men, aged 49 and 50, from Lesotho and Botshabelo respectively, were arrested and charged with possession of possible gold-bearing material.
