Johannesburg - A suspected serial rapist has been arrested in Ivory Park on the East Rand, police said on Tuesday.

The man, 30, was taken into custody on Monday after he was linked to a case which was provisionally withdrawn because of outstanding forensic evidence.

Police had been investigating several rape cases when they linked him to more than 10 others, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

"He is suspected to have raped more than 10 women in Thembisa, Ivory Park, Norkem Park, Rabie Ridge, Olivenhoutbosch and Olifantsfontein."

Police found several items he could not account for.

These included CD bags, cellphones, wrist watches, three vehicle remote controls and a pair of car registration plates, said Dlamini.

He would appear in the Thembisa Magistrate's Court on charges of rape and possession of suspected stolen properties on Wednesday.
