Bloemfontein - Free State police could give little information on Thursday about the investigation into the murder of senior provincial official Noby Ngombane.
An unknown man or men gunned Ngombane down in front of his home in Bloemfontein on March 22.
Senior superintendent Sam Sesing said on Thursday the investigation was continuing.
"We cannot say we will arrest somebody this week or next," he said.
Ngombane, 38, was the head of the Free State government's policy monitoring and evaluation unit in Premier Beatrice Marshoff's office.
He was also a close confidant and spokesman of Marshoff, and a former spokesperson of the African National Congress in the Free State.
It was reported earlier that various ANC officials had been questioned as part of the investigation.
Sesing said police could not disclose the names of the people questioned nor the results of the questioning for fear of jeopardising the investigation.
"We do not know what influence that will have on the people and the investigation," he said.
The investigating team also questioned Ngombane's wife, Nokwanda, after her outburst at his funeral that his death had been a political assassination.
