Johannesburg - A 42-year-old policeman and his colleague were burnt to death when their car overturned and caught alight after hitting a kudu near Rustenburg, North West police said on Saturday.
Inspector B Itumeneng and another police officer, who cannot be named until his family is notified, were travelling between Swartruggens and Rustenburg road late on Thursday night when they collided with a kudu which was crossing the road, captain Thabo Makhasola said.
They lost control of the vehicle which overturned and caught alight with the two officers inside.
Passing motorists notified emergency services of the blaze, but the officers had already died when help arrived.
Arrangements for a memorial service were underway.
