Johannesburg - A man was arrested after being found in possession of a hijacked BMW and stolen goods worth thousands of rand in Heidelberg, south of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

Police raided the man's flat on Hospital Street in central Heidelberg around 16:00 and found plasma TVs, DVD players, jewellery, cash, two pistols, live ammunition as well as tools like crowbars and hammers, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said.

In the parking lot they found a BMW 320i that had been hijacked in Primrose, Germiston on December 25. In the car police found three registration plates. Next to the car was a safe someone had been trying unsuccessfully to grind open.

Also found on the premises was a VW Golf that had been hijacked in Surrey Avenue, Ferndale, in Johannesburg on January 9.

The 27-year-old man was expected to appear in court soon.
