Johannesburg - Police fired shots at the occupants of a hijacked car in Rosebank on Friday, said Hillbrow police.
A patrol vehicle was responding to a complaint about a suspicious Toyota Corolla vehicle parked in the vicinity of several banks in Rosebank.
Police approached the car and searched three men who were standing outside the vehicle, said Constable Bonginkosi Mdletshe.
Two men were inside the car, which reversed and hit another vehicle.
It then struck the car parked in front of it, leaving its number plate at the scene.
Two men drove off in the car and three men fled on foot. Police fired five shots at the car and chased it down Oxford Road.
Later, the vehicle was found abandoned in Alexandra.
"We discovered that the car was hijacked in Brackendowns earlier this year," said Mdletshe.
No arrests have been made.
