Cops keep mum on Gibbs

Cape Town - Herschelle Gibbs's lawyer wants to know from the police whether any other tests, such as blood tests, had been done on the night the cricketer was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.
Peter Whelan, who already has begun preparing his case for Cape Town Magistrate's Court on June 27, said that as far as he knew, the only test done on Gibbs was the breathalyser.
Whelan said he still had no idea whether Gibbs would plead guilty or not to the charge of driving under the influence.
Whelan was waiting for further information from the State, such as what tests had been done, before they would decide on the plea.
"Gibbs is upset and worried about the incident," said Whelan.
If Gibbs was chosen as part of the Proteas team to tour England, Whelan said they "might have to make a plan" if the tour dates overlapped with Gibbs's court appearance.
He had advised Gibbs not to talk to the media before the case was concluded.
Senior superintendent Billy Jones, asked what tests had been done, said it was a legal question which was a matter for the courts.
The police were not going to make any comment on the case before evidence had been given in court.
On way to fast-food restaurant
Jones said this included matters such as the exact time when the tests had been done and which tests had been done.
It was reported at the weekend that Gibbs and his wife had been on their way to a fast-food restaurant last week when he was stopped for alleged drunken driving.
Gibbs and his wife were stopped in Main Road in Green Point at 01:45 on Friday, after he allegedly exceeded the speed limit in his sponsored Volkswagen Touareg.
The police took Gibbs to a testing centre on the N2 near Cape Town International Airport.
He was then taken to Sea Point police station, from where he was released at 08:00 on R500 bail.
