Johannesburg - The Sharpeville police arrested 77 people over the weekend, a spokesperson has said.
Inspector Aubrey Moopeloa said on Sunday the arrests were made for crimes ranging from being drunk in public, urinating in public, malicious damage to property, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and murder.
"One suspect has been arrested for a murder that happened in 2006. The arrest was made after a tip-off from the community," said Moopeloa.
The suspects who were arrested for being drunk in public were sobered up and released after being fined, along with those arrested for urinating in public.
"The others will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's court on Monday," said Moopeloa.
